油雾润滑是一种微量润滑方式，利用压缩空气将液态的润滑油雾化成1um-3um的小颗粒，悬浮在压缩空气中形成油雾，经过传输管线输送到各个润滑部位。虽然也有良好的润滑效果，但与油气润滑相比就相形见绌了。
油气润滑是继油雾润滑之后出现的一种更为先进的微量润滑方式，不仅解决了油雾润滑存在的各种弊端，而且润滑效果更好，油耗更低。
油气润滑与油雾润滑的主要区别在于供给轴承的润滑油未被雾化，而是以油粒状被压缩空气吹入轴承，向大气中排放的仅是空气，因此对环境没有污染。
油雾润滑系统中润滑剂和空气紧密融合成油雾气，加热温度、环境温度以及气压的变化会使给油量受到影响，难以对润滑剂实现定量调节，而油气润滑可实现定量给油。
油雾润滑难以实现油雾气按比例分配，而油气润滑通过递进式分配器和油气分配器可精确实现油气的定量或按比例分配。
油气润滑克服了油雾润滑的所有缺点，因此发展非常快，并在众多场合取代了油雾润滑，在滚动轴承、天车、链条、开式齿轮、矿山机械、高速电主轴、高铁、轻轨、地铁轮缘等场合被广泛的应用。
