船舶润滑油是指用于船舶设备机械的润滑油，从而对船舶起到养护润滑的作用。船用润滑油一般有：船用中速机油，船用系统用油，船用气缸油，船用发动机油等。
中速发动机的工作原理与高速发动机基本相同，一般船用中速机可多到20个缸，成对排列或V型，经减速齿轮箱与推进器连接，润滑油润滑活塞、轴承等，同时亦能润滑齿轮箱，但船用中速筒状活塞发动机特点是燃用劣质燃料，因此和一般高速机相比，船用中速机油有其特殊要求。它应兼船用气缸油和船用系统油双重性能的要求。
中速筒状活塞柴油机油性能：润滑油膜有足够的承载能力，以保证在边界润滑状态下降低磨损；优良的热氧化安定性，尽量少的生成漆膜、积炭和油泥；根据燃油的硫含量，油品必须具备足够的总碱度，以中和酸性物质防止腐蚀磨损；优良的清净分散性，中速机作为船用主机，动率大，发动机在工作过程中润滑油总是处在循环、离心、净化状态。因此对油品的清净分散性提出了更高要求，不能在离心净化过程中使油品的清净分散性降低。此外，中速机油在工作过程中直接与高温的活塞、缸套以及燃用劣质燃料而产生更加恶劣的燃气接触。因此，中速机高温沉积物生成倾向更为严重，从而对中速机油的高温清净分散性提出了更高要求。对船用中速机既要有优良的清净分散性，同时又要求油品在离心净化过程中不降低其清净分散性；抗水性，一般对船用油都提出了这个要求，而中速机油由于要中和劣质燃料燃烧而产生的酸性产物，因此需其油品有一定TBN。而高碱性添加剂加入不利于油品的抗水性，所以更要求其有良好的抗水性。
性能特点：良好的碱值保持性和防锈性能，能够有效抑制因含硫燃料燃烧而产生的酸性。物质的腐蚀，防止机件的锈蚀和腐蚀，并对发动机提供有效保护；优良的抗氧化性能及热稳定性，降低油品的氧化速度，延长使用时间；优良的清净分散性，有效防止高温积炭和低温油泥的生成，保持发动机清洁；良好的分水性能，能迅速将进入油中的水分分离，避免油品乳化。
应用范围：船用中速机油4030适用于使用硫含量3.5%以下的船用中速筒状活塞柴油，发动机、大型船舶辅助发动机、陆用柴油发电机组的润滑；满足主机厂的性能要求，广泛应用于众多大型船舶；船用中速机油4030适用于新发动机润滑，以有效减少能耗。
注意事项：中速机油的贮存和运输过程中要注意尽可能在室内存放，做到防水防潮；在使用过程中尽可能不与其他品牌或其他种类的产品混合使用。
